Ingredients
4 cups (500 grams) all purpose flour
1 tablespoon dry yeast
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 2/3 cups warm water
about 1-2 cups of oil for frying (depending on how large your frying pan is, it should have about 1 inch of oil.)
Directions
Dissolve the yeast in the warm water and the sugar. Set Aside
In a stand mixer, combine flour and salt, and pour the water mixture over it. Let the mixer run on medium-low for about 5 minutes, taking breaks to scrape the bowl with a silicon spatula. Alternatively, need by hand for about 10 minutes.
Take the dough out of the bowl, create a large ball by tucking dough under. Oil the bowl sightly and return the dough to the bowl to proof for at least 1-2 hours.
Divide the dough into 12-16 pieces. with wet hands, flatten each piece and create a hole in the middle with your thumbs. Very gently, stretch the donut so that the hole gets bigger. Place down on a smooth or oiled surface. Don't over shape the dough, as it will become sticker and hard to handle.
Heat up your oil in a frying pan. if your not sure if your oil is hot enough, you can use a wooden spoon to place into the oil, if bubbles form around it, it's ready!
Gently place 2-4 donuts in your pan, and fry 1-3 minutes on each side. Donuts should be golden brown.
Transfer donuts to a paper towel lined plate and let cool for 1-2 minutes.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar or drizzle with honey.
